Graphite compounded PTFE
Key features:
- Improved wear resistance
- Improvement of its thermal conductivity
- Self-lubricating
Graphite improves the mechanical properties of PTFE, especially its resistance to wear and creep compared to standard PTFE. The graphite load thus reduces wear on metal parts. Its thermal conductivity is also improved. Its friction coefficient is very low compared to other compounded PTFE.
It also retains the characteristics for which standard PTFE is appreciated, such as high temperature resistance and chemical stability. However, the compressive strength of graphite-loaded PTFE is lower. It is used for shaft seals, non-lubricated dynamic seals, sealing rings, compressor segments and bearings. It can also be used for bearings, under high speed conditions and in contact only with medium hardness surfaces.
