PCTFE Turning

Turning of plastics, including PCTFE or polychlorotrifluoroethylene, is one of SPN’s main activities. Turning is a very delicate operation consisting in machining plastic parts by material removal. This technique only concerns parts that have an axis of revolution. To carry out a turning operation, the company uses high-performance machine tools. Depending on the dimensions of the parts desired by the customers, our company machines the plastic components either with conventional lathes – Cazeneuve – or with numerical lathes – MORI SEKI and MAZAK -. Like FEP or fluorinated ethylene propylene turning, PCTFE turning allows us to obtain very tight parts with excellent mechanical performances. The components obtained after a PCTFE turning operation also have the advantage of being able to withstand very low temperatures.

The PCTFE reminder is a fluoropolymer known for its chemical stability and low gas permeability. Widely used in industrial sectors including aeronautics and cryogenics, this polymer also has remarkable fire resistance. Even at temperatures ranging from – 240 °C to + 150 °C, this material maintains its dimensional stability perfectly. The composition of PCTFE differs from that of PTFE by an additional chlorine atom. It is this essential chlorine atom that gives the material its outstanding resistance to creep and high tensile strength. PCTFE, unlike other materials, retains its mechanical properties when subjected to cryogenic temperatures.
